Just rent a car (North Wheels is the best) and drive into this wonderful and various nature; waterfalls, ricepaddies, jungle, mountains...it has is all!

For me (I'm 65), best done on a reasonably powered comfortable scooter or cycle. Our Toyota Vios automatic behind buses got old quick. And if you do take the bus, carry something soothing to drink.

Okay I cheated a bit. I only drove from Pai to Mae Hong Son which is about 150 kilometres. I hired a 125cc "twist and go" type scooter which was more than adequate. I am not a motor cyclist and usually drive a car. This is a stunning route with well over 1500 separate bends ( a local told me... More

Fantastic scenery, with some hairpin bends which aren't for the faint hearted. Make sure you allow enough time, although the distances aren't that big, with the roads it'll take longer than you think. Best to spend couple of nights in Pai, 1 in Mae hong son & 1 in Mae sariang.

Beautiful forested mountain roads. The road is twisty and sometimes rough, but not scary. Loved it!

We drove ourselves in a hire car from Chiang Mai. We found the loop challenging at times as the road is extremely winding. We loved the trip and would advise others to do it.

I travelled the Mae Hong Son loop over 8 days with my family. Lovely drive, beautiful scenery and amazing people along the way. 1863 curves, a bit of car sickness but definitely worth it. Mae Hong Son and Pai are great destinations.

Excellent but not as quiet as it once was. Beware the lunatic drivers!

My husband doing the complete loop with me as the pillon. As we rented only 125cc, we can't ride fast with all the steep curves. Because of this we can enjoy the scency on the road better. Weather is super cold when up the mountains. A great riding experience.

We waited years to drive this route because local people talk about it like it's a nightmare, but hey, how can you live in Chiang Mai and never drive the Mae Hong Son Loop, right? We started at Doi Inthanon and took a very small road over the back of the mountain. We had topo maps and the advice of... More
