Alex Bay is a small and somewhat disappointing town, but the Thousand Islands are absolutly beautiful. Plenty of activities to fill 2-3 days. Overall town is very scenic, quiet and relaxing. The town itself is very small but if you're a water lover like me, you'll find it peaceful, serene, and beautiful. The homes on the islands are unreal and beautiful from a distance. Great weekend get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. more
The Thousand Islands are indeed beautiful. I will list Pros and Cons.... Pros. Easy to drive to..(right up interstate 81..pretty and fast Hwy) Waterways and islands should be in the 7 wonders of the world. Boating is AWESOME, so is the fishing! History abounds...sunken ships, War of 1812, etc. Not crowded. Bolt castle- a must see! Take the boat tours!... more
I have vacationed in the Thousand Islands since my early childhood. I loved the area so much that I bought a cottage on Hill Island. It is by far, the most beautiful vacation spot in the world and the best kept secret powerboating area in the States. more

We spent a couple days at the beginning of off-season in Alexandria Bay.NY. The scenery was supurb, I couldn't believe how clear the water was.
