We went here at 2:45pm at the advice of our hotel owner ( to avoid the crowds) and stayed till it was starting to get dark ( between 7 and 8 PM) and wish we would have maybe gone a couple of hours sooner as there really is a lot to see here. The ruins themself are really stunning and... More

Well landscaped and organized - LONG walk, but during the day there is a free shuttle for the round trip back to your bus. Bring lots of camera cards.

We did the trip in 2005 we stayed overnight and Pamukkale looks like a giant mountain in the distance. The water is lovely and warm to walk through and it is amazing. Also the archaeology is very good outside the Pamukkale (Hierapolis)

Hierapolis is wonderfully sited at the top of the travertines in Pamukkale, and the ruins are immense. Go early or late in the day to avoid the sun, as it gets VERY hot on the stones mid-day, and there is a lot to see; very spread out. Some limited signage available, and even though the travertines get quite a crowd,... More

What a fun place to explore. Try and ignore the crowds at the travertines (although you will want to try the water), and the overcrowded baths of Cleopatra, and explore the necropolis of Hierapolis. What an interesting site!

Nothing prepared us for this amazing experience, no wonder it's a World Heritage Site. Staff are there to ensure that all visitors remove their footwear so the white of the calcium carbonate which make up the travertines isn't soiled by dust and dirt. The ancient city of Hierapolis felt as if it was only asleep whilst the huge ampitheatre is... More

There are 3 entrances. The south entrance takes you through the byzantine gate, and you can meander downwards towards the travertines and a pretty long trek to one direction towards the nortn entrance. The north entrance is the most dramatic one that takes you into the hieropolis through the necropolis, which is an unearthly long walk amongst crumbling sarcophagus and... More

We did a day tour with Crossroads Travel and highly recommend. It is a well designed tour with plenty of free time to explore the area. Three hour drive from Selcuk but well worth it. The Hieropolis very interesting and the guide very knowledgeable. The travertine and thermal pools are a must see in Turkey. You can walk on the... More

We loved the friendly staff of the site, nice warm water in the Antique Pool and of course the travertines!

Pamukale is known as the cotton castle. It does look like one at the distance. However, some of the travertines seem to have been suffering from the touristic activity. In fact, part of it is closed to the public. As incredible as if feels walking on the steep mountain, the authorities should really take better care of this World Heritage... More
