Extended site with the main attraction probably being the amphitheatre. Well worth visiting. You can also go to Letoon which is only about 4 km from Xanthos which is a small site and also interesting. If you want to go a bit further up the road (40km ??) Pinara is a very different site with a rather imposing feel and... More

Cannot believe that such building happened so long ago on such a scale. The social history was fascinating too.

It is amazing to observe the civil life of history. But I was very sad with the bad maintenance of the site.

We visited Xanthos on a jeep safari day trip from Kalkan. It is rather strange to just drive into an area just awash with old ruins - from 8th century BC (or earlier) to the Romans - and beyond. We spent a while wandering around, but the experience was made much richer and more memorable when a young man offered... More

This is the second UNICEF World Heritage Centre that I've visited and found it disappointing. We made our own way to Xanthos by public transport and this wasn't easy, with few signs showing how to get up to the ruins. The ruins are just a pile of rubble, rather badly kept, with hardly anything to guide the visitor around. We... More

This was our first trip to Turkey . . . and Define Tours in Kalkan was recommended by our hotel. An incredible day, with a very experienced guide . . . Ozgur Candir, who took us on a full day tour starting with a very compete description and moving history of Xanthos, and then on to Saklikent Gorge, Yakapark and... More
