Walking in the open-air-museum in Görme is a must-to-do. Unfortunately lots of groups in small caves / churches - and an extra fee of 8 TL for visiting the dark church (which means not included in the 20,- TL entrance fee).

the cave churches are nice, well-preserved. you must bring with your lonely planet or join tour there to have the storytelling of the background of this place. religious and historic!
The most important parts of the area are the amazing views, the magnificent rock formations created over hundeds of thousands of years ago and great photography opportunities. The museum contains beautifully preserved painted churches from the 9-11th centuries which are nestled amoung the rock formations. The churches are located about 1.5 miles from the village, but is usually filled with...

2000 year old history of how it was set up and a great tour of various churches. Its amazing to see so much of work, so old & beautiful. If you would like to see some old stuff and connect back to what the region was like, a great place to spend a couple of hours.
This is a must visit destination in Goreme - though the experience would be influenced by how crowded it was and whether you had someone knowledgable to tell you about the different cave churches. We did, and were annoyed to find the staff providing audio guides walked away to enjoy breakfast instead of serving us. Some parts of the site were roped off due to landslips. This was not signposted or explained and was a disappointment. Do pay to enter the Dark Church. It is quiet and magnificent.
We went later in the afternoon and were met with hordes of tourists. I would suggest asking around when is the site less crowded, perhaps like lunch. Pay the extra lira for the Dark Church because of the quality of the frescoes, and you lose most of the other tourists.
Truly a remarkable site to see. The paintings and the history are mind-blowing. I recommend taking a guided tour. The fact that you cannot take photos make it just that much more special to see.
This was a unique and fun experience. But would have been nice to have some more signs and interactive displays. Once you've seen some of the buildings, the rest aren't that different.
The museum pass allows entry into all of the historic sites of Turkey, not just in Cappadoccia, definitely worth the 50TL
