Caves, Cave Churches, Housing, & kitchens for mostly Monastic Life Style. Crowded mid-day and noon time. Well worth the visit, but no photography allowed of the Frescos in the Churches - they want you to buy the book. By the way - "World Heritage Sites in Cappadocia" is an excellent book on the area.

Zelve is the site of great hope and great tragedy. at one time these cave dwellings housed a community of Christians and Muslims living in true harmony. No one but birds and turtles inhabit this unique town today. The soft rocks enabled the community members to create unique homes, worship centers, businesses, and hidden tunnels. Not to be missed! Just as beautiful as other sites in Cappadocia and worth visiting. We had a wonderful tour guide who explained everything to us and that makes a big difference. Some structures are falling apart due to the erosion, but there is still a lot of beauty to be enjoyed!

Well worth a visit and better later in the day when the tour buses have left. However at 3.45pm they took our money first THEN told us they were closing early at 4.15 (instead of the advertised 5pm). Beware!

Well maintained heritage. Must try the ice cream in front of the museum, and ask the seller to do some "ice cream acrobat"!

Unfortunately nature and erosion takes it's toll and many structures are falling apart. It is like Ihlara vadisi you can walk around but can not get close to many of the structures due to risk of collapsing . Still it is nice to walk in the open air museum and try to imagine the valley that has been densely populated... More

The Zelve Open Air Museum is similar to the Goreme museum, but a bit less impressive. It's very expansive and provides ample time to walk through the dwellings without the feeling rushed, as one does at Goreme due to the volume of people there. There are several ladders carved into the rock, which were used to reach some dwellings high... More

This is a lot like the Goreme open air museum, but less spectacular. It is less-crowded, however. The other interesting thing is that these cave dwellings and buildings were actually used until the 1950s. Pretty wild! The staff was really nice. Based on what we saw, most tour groups only went back about halfway, but there is more to see... More
