This museum used to be the biggest museum in Gaziantep before the Zeugma museum. The mosaics are carried to Zeugma museum leaving this mostly deserted. I advice to visit this place before going to Zeugma Museum.

Most of the museum was closed due to renovation. They told that items stored in the warehouse for decades will be exhibited sometime during this year. If you are passing by, you might be still interested in seeing current sections. They have a quite impressive collection of ancient seals and a few artifacts from late Hittites and an Egyptian Sphinx....

It was a pitty to see that the museum was almost empty. Afterwards we learned that it was going to be renovated so they removed many pieces. Some of them were still presented like the fibulas, jewelry, seals etc. I would recomend you to ask first whether the renovation is finished or not. An archaelogist whom I met at the...

As the Zeugma mosaics have been moved to the new museum this is much depleted but still worth a short visit, with small finds from the rescue excavations and Hittite carvings. The shop is very well stocked, better than the Zuegma museum with a very friendly English speaking manager.
Ancient mosaics can be found all over the Mediterranean. The mosaics in this museum are best preserved in the world. Have you seen the "Gypsy Girl" mosaic uncovered in Zeugma in 1999? The haunting look of the Gypsy Girl mosaic resembles the famous Afghan Girl of Steve McCurry-one of the most memorable images in National Geographic's history. They are from...

Accessible Interesting stuff to see 3 TL only for the entrance!
Absolutely stunning mosaics, beautifully displayed in a modern museum with lots of value. Leave several hours - we had only an hour and wished for much more time. Plus, they are adding pieces since they continue to work on all the mosaics rescued from Zeugma.
Gaziantep Museum displays the worlds most impressive mosaic collection from the close by ancient city of Zeugma. The museum is in the city and we have been told that the mosaic collection will soon be moved to the new Zeugma Museum. There is also a informatory documentary about the history of Zeugma and the area presented in a large amphiteather...

This museum houses some huge and outstanding mosaics found at Zeugma and brought back to life on the museum floors and walls. Information regarding each mosaic is written in both Turkish and English. The floor plan, with arrows, leads you throughout the museum so you won't miss a thing. One of the highlights is a very small mosaic of a...
