Awesome, huge with detailed ruins all around. Try to get more time to view this and all the sites in Bermaga, suggest an overnight stay. organised tour bus visits cannot see this and all Bermaga has to offer on a quick stopover.

There is not much to see and what is there is not well displayed. Save the entrance fee and look at it over the fence.

As we turned the corner, there was a call to prayer - very evocative of what it would have been like in ancient times

Originally a giant temple to three Egyptian gods, it is the vivid red colour and sheer size which impresses. It takes 30 minutes or so to walk around and inspect the ruins and peer inside from purpose built sites. Some restoration has occurred but some sections of the high walls look a little precarious.

It is a big, red, [mostly] ruin of a building that was, at various times in history, a church, a mosque, a tourist site. The signage is non-existant and while some of the spaces were interesting, there was no context provided within which to place them. The tourist literature on this site is thin and not helpful. Ruins seem in serious dis-repair, un-supported. Many tourists ignore posted warnings, step over barriers . . . but beautiful structures. Must see.

The Red Basilica is worth seeing if you're in Bergama, although considering the walls are unsteady and you can't go inside the walls, you can probably get just a good of a view from the outside, avoiding the entrance fee.
