The ancient city of Ephesus is really worth visiting, as seen in all the reviewsand photos on this site. However it was only after getting there that we realised that you can hire headphones and do the tour without needing a guide. We have not seen this advice on Trip Advisor before, hence this review. We hired a guide from... more

Ancient Ephesus is almost overwhelming to visit. The size of the city and its amenities were so much more developed than our modern stereotype of an ancient city. Ephesus was a huge, well developed center of trade and culture. Marc Anthony, Cleopatra, Sulla, and many other notables of the Roman era visited here. It is still being excavated, so who... more

We were amazed at how many ruins were in great condition here. It’s a lot to take in, so allow 3-5 hours here and wear comfy shoes and sunscreen. There is an audio guide available for 5 YTL. The tour guides seemed to be a better idea, as we eavesdropped on a few and they were definitely going more in-depth... more

We were in Ephesis in December 2007 and it was a wonderful time to go! Not only was nice and sunny (and not too hot!) but we missed the crowds (apparently there is a sea of people during the peak months). You must get a guide to show you around. It’ll take 2 to 3 hours so bring water with... more

We were a group of 4 that had a day to spend in Ephesus when we were on a cruise. Other reviewers had recommended meander travel and they were right! Our tour guide was Feliz and she was a great guide. We were meet at the port early and beat the tour parties (and the heat) to Ephesus. We really... more

We visited this ancient city (September 2007 Oceania Cruise Insignia) and it was a fabulous warm sunny day. It is well worth doing the extra tour called the Terrace Houses which are being restored now. This ancient wonder is also worth a second visit if you have a been a long time ago. They are uncovering new findings all the... more

If you are in the Izmir/Selcuk area, then I can echo what other reviewers already wrote: Ephesus is an absolute must-see. Perhaps the most striking thing about Ephesus is the size. A city of 250,000 was large by the standards of antiquity, and Ephesus had all the trappings, such as a modern library (which is probably the single most photographed... more

Mesut Yilmaz offers a variety of tours in the Ephesus, Kusadasi area. Six of us hired him for a day during a cruise stop at Kusadasi. By the end of the day, all of us were in agreement that Mesut offered the best tour any of us had ever hired. He made the tour very personal, tailoring the agenda to... more

What a wonder ! It is amazing what is left from the ancient town of Ephesos, and especially the library . You feel like you are back when it was a lively town. Do not miss it ! Start out early and wear good shoes - a lot of walking . more
