This site is surrounded by many modern buildings partially excavated and a little ignored. Hardly any tourists around and lots of stray cat and dogs. Izmir's Agora is really average. It is in the heart of bustling, busy town, so this is only 'one more unnecessary old place' and civilization hunger demands an offer. Unfortunately the Agora as neighbours has modern buildings which spoils the antic look. We were a little disappointed to see many of the columns and arcs lying in series in stead of naturally buildings.

We have been visiting Izmir for 6 years and are very impressed by the improvements to the Agora ,particularly the interpretation boards. If you are at all interested in the history of the town do visit but avoid the hottest part of the day as there is little shade. Don't miss the Ottoman gravestones, some of which are really beautiful.

Nice and quite spot to wander around for an hour or so More a possible see than a must see
