You don't have to be a die-hard mountaineer to climb Mt. Fuji; the slopes are full of children and adults of all ages, shapes, and sizes. The official climbing season only runs from the beginning of July to the end of August, but you can take the train from Toyko to the fifth station any season. « less

we had a day trip to Mount Fuji and the surrounding area. We got lucky with the weather as the day we visited we had beautiful clear skies. Fuji was clearly visible as we approached and our driver took us up to the fifth station (the highest station you can drive to). It was deep with snow when we arrived,... More

I visited the visitor's centre and drove up to 4th station (the road to 5th was closed due to snow) as part of a tour. The view from the visitor's centre is nice (assuming Fuji isn't obscured by clouds - luckily it wasn't the day I was there), but it's hard to get a nicely composed photo because of the... More

the day was too cloudy so the top is covered, strong wind cancelled the boat ride and cable car ride, seems like missing all the top attractions in the mount fuji area, then the snow shut the road at level 1. but still had an enjoyable trip. Subsequent days along the highway, mother nature make up for it with clear... More

There's apparently a Japanese saying that goes, "A wise man climbs Fujisan once, a foolish man does it twice." Well, attempting to do it once was hard enough. For those who intend only to visit the car and bus-accessible 5th station, about 2300m above sea level, this area contains lodgings, restaurants, souvenir shops, the usual tourist trap staples; plus mountaineering... Climb not that hard if you're in moderate shape THis is a pilgrimage for Japanese and I loved sharing the experience with them Very crowded hiking with frequent queues Extraordinary crowded and sleeping shoulder to shoulder next to dozens of your newest friends for a couple houris quite the experience hiking with headlights in the pre-dawn darkness sublime You should... This is a must see sight in Japan. It is absolute gorgeous and majestic. Be sure to check the weather if you're planning to a day trip visit. You won't get to see much if it's cloudy. There' are live webcam sites so check before you go. Your best chance of a good weather is most likely in the morning.

This is a practical guide to climbing Mt. Fuji, with a young child. I did the climb to the summit in July of 2009 with my then 7 year-old. Yes, it is doable, but be prepared to carry a small child from time to time as it may be a tough hike for a little one or someone who is... More

Mount Fuji is indeed magnificant. My wife and myself sign up for a local tour who bring us to Mount Fuji. When approaching Mount Fuji, we are able to see the mountain from far. The snow cap is still there and the view is beautiful. The only disppointment was that we only reach Base Camp 1 and cannot proceed further... More

Climbing season is July and August. We went to the Lake Kawaguchiko Kachikachiyama Ropeway and saw Mt Fuji. We took trains to the Otsuki station and changed to the Fujikyu Line which terminates at the Kawaguchiko station (about 1,110-1,410 Yen and 30-50 minutes). Take the 'Retro' sightseeing bus (just outside the station) and get off at stop #10 (runs every... More
