Friendly atmosphere, interesting sights, good food. What more could you ask for in a morning's stroll?

The markets are buzzing with activity, with merchants shouting their wares and locals shopping. All sorts of food are on display and it is remarkable that there is so much produce to be sold each day.

Omicho Market is a genuine food market with a variety of interesting foods on display. We speak very little Japanese so could not find out exactly what we were looking at, but of course it is always easy to indicate what you want to buy by pointing.
Two down from the great Sake store and the best sea food I've ever had!
Omicho market is a 20 mins walk from JR Kanazawa station. This is a local market, rather interesting place to visit. There is a nice sushi restaurant here, Yamasan Sushi. Its at one of the exit, inside the market. Sushi here is fresh and delicious. A good place to stop for lunch.

If you visit omicho market, definitely try the fresh oysters and prawns... You can buy them at the stores and the fishmonger would gladly open them for you... We found a noodle shop which also sell freshly made udon. Give it a go, the udon was so smooth yet springy.
I love Omicho market and make a point to visit every time I am in Kanazawa. One is bombarded with colours, authentic japanese food smells and the most amazing displays of fresh seafood, friut/vegetables and many other Japanese food stuffs. Recently extended with another level of great restaurants. Do not miss this place.
