The garden is stunning and quite large. It should be your first stop of the day, as we went at about 9:30, and by 10:30 our peaceful garden became quite crowded. The museum inside is cute also; I loved the souvenir shop.

Beautiful old garden which focusses on trees. Some of the trees have so many crutches it is hard to see the tree, but otherwise it is very beautiful.

These are said to be one of the three most beautiful gardens in japan and they certainly live up to that reputation.

Very cheap entrance fee. Even though I went during a very busy time, it was still fairly peaceful to walk around. There was enough space to accommodate everyone!

I managed to visit during peak cherry blossom season, an amazing stroke of luck that totally changed my experience of this beautiful garden. For the week of peak blooming only, the garden was open till 9 pm, the trees were beautifully illuminated, and the entry fee was waived. During the day the garden was gorgeous, as others have described, but... More

Kenrokuen is famous as one of the most beautiful gardens in Japan. We have now seen it in autumn, and in spring, and without doubt it is indeed one of the most beautiful gardens we have ever seen. Worth a special trip to Kanazawa.

The gardens are quite serene (except for the hordes of tourists) and is quite a lovely place to wander around. There are free English guided tours of the Kanazawa Castle (which is next to the Garden) which are quite good and gives you a better overview of Kanazawa Castle and an interesting insight into the Maeda family.
