We came across this shrine quite accidentally on our walk to Kenrokuen and I'm so glad we did. Though the weather was awful that day, this little shrine was quite lovely. Pretty garden, and a very interesting gate. Buy some castellas from the vendors near the gate. more

Though sights like Kenrokuen and Kanazawa Castle are bigger and more dramatic, the Oyama Shrine can be enjoyed on a different scale. It is small and manageable and has a lovely compact strolling garden. Well worth the visit. more

We happend to be here at the time of the 3,5,7, fesival. Small children dressed in full traditional costume are taken to the Shrine for a blessing. There were small girls and boy in costumes of equal beauty, tripping up the stone steps, wearing Geta on their little feet. All accompanied by proud Parents and Grand Parents. I became homesick... more
