It is a reproduction of the old check point. Got to pay for entrance. Did not really enjoy it.

Way overpriced attraction which houses replicas of old Japnese houses, stables, toilets, etc. Visitors who do not comprehend Japanese can only guess what the displays are because the information are all in Japanese (like most museums in Japan). The bright spot is the little museum down the road which displays historical items from Hakone habitants long time ago.

it can be skipped if you have no time. but if you're really into history, it might be ok. before an average joe traveler like ourselves, nothing interested really. you need to pay to see the inside of the checkpoint post.

If you are interested in Japanese history, then this reconstructed check point might be of some interest. It is a modern reproduction and is well done for what it is, but only visit if you are in the area anyway. Hakone checkpoint ruins used to be simpler than what it is now. Recent renovation made the site more true to the historical grounds. It is perfect only if there's ample English guidance to the newly renovated parts.
