Beautiful privately owned garden with Japanese pagodas and ponds. A great place to reflect on the world
Here is my favorite place for cherry blossoms viewing. It takes 30 minutes from Yokohama Station by bus. And we have to pay the entrance fee to enter. But it is worth visiting cherry blossoms season under the blue sky. The cherry blossoms is beautiful with a big pond, old Japanese houses in Japanese garden.
I have visited Sankeien Gardens many times since I was a child and if you are in the Yokohama area, it is a must to see. The best times to go are during the Spring and Autumn seasons when the cherry blossom trees are in full bloom or various trees are ablaze with reds and yellows. Famous centuries old buildings...

This is a place I keep going back to -- to recall previous visits and to find a quiet and pleasant escape from the megalopolis surrounding the gardens.
It probably isn't worth an especially long trip to reach, but if you are in this part of Yokohama, it is well worth going a bit out of your way to see....

Was there during nice sunny August summer day.. Spent 90 minutes inside . Traditional Tea ceremony available could not make it as I was in a hurry.. Nice kept and cool garden with lots of individual ancient homes inside with some good traditional house hold items collections.. Worth visiting. Not to be missed while in Yokohama
As I had gone to Japan for a family funeral, I did not expect to do a lot of sightseeing, but my son's in laws insisted on taking me to the Sankeien Gardens as they know I am a keen gardener in U.K. We went to the pavilions and participated in the Tea Ceremony, I was even allowed to make...

This is a beautiful park / garden in the middle of Yokohama. There is a nice pond filled with Koi and there is a cafe that offers bread to be fed to the koi. When the KOI come, they swarm in mass. You can enjoy a beer there too.
Even though I visited on a rainy day, I still was able to enjoy the amazing beauty and tranquility of the gardens. I took the bus from the Yokohama Station which was very easy to do with my Pasmo Card. At the gate I paid the 500yen admission fee and was given an English map of the grounds. The irises...
