Lovely tour of the Hot Springs and emperor's room.

Lovely tour of the Hot Springs and emperor's room.
We had expected more than a face cloth for use as a towel. Ladies even had to pay to use the hair dryer. The hot bath itself was bit small, but fortunately not too crowded. Overall, a very average experience, but at least we can say that we have been in very hot water at Dogo Onsen, one of Japan's...

I was visiting Matsuyama for work, and since this onsen is so famous, a group of us felt we needed to go there. Full disclosure--this was my first visit to Japan and this is my only onsen experience, so I cannot compare it to any others.
Seeing the emperor's bath made me realize how much the Japanese still seem to...

The building of Dogo Onsen is great! The onsen itself is a bit small (chose the time of your visit wisely and it will be not as packed as it can be).
If you tire of the fancy hotel style onsen, go traditional with this place. It has an ambiance that far exceeds other Onsens
This place is definitely worth a visit; it's such a gorgeous building, but I wouldn't recommend the onsen itself. You can still go and tour the interior of the building. The onsen is really expensive which I understand as they have a historic building's upkeep to maintain. We paid 1200yen for the 'water of the spirits' package. You go in...

This was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. It wasn't the most beautiful or relaxing onsen we visited, but that isn't the point. A slight issue is that no-one in the Dogo Onsen really speaks English, probably in keeping with there being few western visitors on Shikoku. Working out where to go was therefore a bit of...

One of Japan's oldest and most popular onsens, which is treasured by nationals and foreigners alike. Over the years, I have visited Dogo Onsen approximately four times, and each time I am impressed with its architecture and of course the hot bath. I would highly recommend that you visit Dogo Onsen, with or without a guide.
Good atmosphere of the bussle as people came and left. You can catch the tram and buy a day pass for cheapness.
I went to Dogo onsen at the end of a 10-days Onsen trip in Japan. This is oldest Onsen in Japan, recommended by all the travel guides out there.
While appealing from the outside - if you are looking for old-style tradition as I was, the onsen experience does not live up to the expectations. First of all it is...
