We have been here many times as a couple and with our family. The Abai Opera and Ballet house is definitely a must see for all visitors to Almaty. It shows the high standard of the performing arts in Kazakhstan. It is almost unbelievable how cheap the tickets are. Wonderful that such quality performances remains within reach of the average...

It`s a lovely place for opera-maniacs! I love opera (esp.Verdi`s). Interesting architecture, nice staff, feeling of something magic. Of course, its not Olavinlinna, but definitely its has own charm.

There is something magic in this oldish, soviet-kazakh, refurbished theatre. The average level is really good; ok, this is not the Bolchoi theatre in Moscow, but anyway good and very good value for money. A real pleasure to go there before a nice dinner in town.

It is a great building, the ballet generally costs around ten dollars, the bar prices are a little expensive but you win with the ticket prices, the quality of ballet and opera is generally good, well worth a visit if in Almaty.

If you have a chance to see a ballet or opera here, take it! I've been amazed at the excellent level of performances. They are offered several times per week during the season, and are very affordable. I've never been disappointed.
