would not advice you to go out of your way to visit ,not a great deal to experience really ,quick walk over the water and you get to nose into peoples houses . no fee but donation appreciated
During our walk here it seemed there where not that many other travelers at this place. I liked it because it gives you a good idea of the lifes (right now and in history) of the Chinese fisherman, traders and so on.
Jetty can also be found in Hong Kong but the one inMalaysia is different.
Just past the Penang/Butterworth Ferry Jetty you will find the entrance to a doorway back in time.

It was interesting to walk out along the jetty and imagine how bustling they must have been in the past, people were friendly and did not seem to mind us taking pictures.
This was the beginning of the Chinese immigrants mainly from Fujian Province. Best time is to witness the offering to the Jade God on the 8th. night of the Chinese Lunar New Year.
This is amazing.. Indentured workers lived here a hundred years ago and more.. And their ancestors living here today.. Many old people going about their daily life... A must to see .. Reminds us of penangs roots.
This for me is the besy Jetty Residence (as compared to Philippines, Cambodia and Vietnam), houses are big some even open for tourist to stay, some even cemented with Air Condition and Cabled Flat Screen TVs!
Hope this jetty could further develop with schools, Gymnasiums and all basic community facilities! Truly a Unesco Heritage site.

Few minutes east of the Jetty Bus Terminal. We visited the Lim & Chew Jetties, out of the 6 UNESCO Heritage listed jetties. The board walk appeared to be renovated recently. Some houses were dated while few others were renovated or extended upwards with all the modern facilities.
