The Semenggoh Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre is situated approximately 12 miles and 30 to 45 minutes drive, depending on traffic, from the centre of Kuching city and can be visited easily by local bus, taxi or on an organised tour.  Visiting times are restricted to feeding sessions twice a day between 9 to 10am and 3 to 4pm.  Fruit is placed... We must have been there on a good day, we saw at least 15 orangutans coming in to get food from the station. They were active and interesting to watch. We also saw a mother and baby near the parking lot.

Very nice place and wonderful to see the Orangutans in their natural habitat. The rangers are all incredibly friendly and attentive and answer all your questions brilliantly! Would definitely recommend this over Sepilok, in Sabah.

The orangutans here have been reintroduced to a natural area near Kuching. There is a good chance of seeing some at the feeding area, depending on the season. If there is food available in the forest then they are less likely to come. Easy to find, and a reasonable entrance fee.

Interesting re a chance to see some unique anilmals, but a very sad place with antiquated cages for orangutans and dreadful cages for the splendid Hornbill birds. Could do much better.

Whatever you prefer to call it, rehabilitation centre or sanctuary, Semenggoh is a perfect little habitat for the endangered Orung-Utan that everyone who visits Sarawak should definately visiting. It is easily accessible from the city by direct public bus. It is best to visit in the morning to catch the 9am feeding time, so taking the 7 am bus will... More

Smaller and less commercial than Sepilok the reserve is only 3km from the main road and half an hour from Kuching City. We visited and were amazed by 7 orangutans, including "hot mama" and her baby. The layout enables a close experience and the first feeding platform is only 15-20 metres from the main area. There is a 10min walk... More

This "rehabilitation" center has been turned into a tourist attraction where the orang-outans are paraded twice a day as circus animals in front of large groups of tourists. All of the gardens and trails around the park have now been closed. You only have access to the small feeding area, where the rangers will brief you on what to do... More
