We wanted to visit the fort as it was pictured on the cover of our guide book, and we were not disappointed. The building is solidly impressive, there are installations showing aspedcts of Oman's history, including indigo-making. Then you can clamber around the passages and climb to the top for great views of the town, and the surrounding palm plantations...

Nizwa fort located in the middle of the city and it is approximately 175 kms far from Muscat. It is an 11th Century fort and it is well preserved. The artifacts are good with detailed history about the Oman. The near by souq is also worth visiting.
The fort of Nizwa is one of the better examples of Oman fort building. Nice views on the city and the mosque. Lovely exhibition on the daily life of Nizwa in the past.
Nizwa is the ancient site of learning in Oman, and the fort, mosque, and souk are full of history and atmosphere.
Nice, well preserved fort in the centre of Nizwa, with excellent views across the area.

I really enjoyed visiting this restored fort. There were well-written signs in English explaining how the fort was defended against invaders. Exploring every nook and cranny took up most of an afternoon. There is a small cafe on site where you can get coffee, tea, water, juices, and snacks.
