My wife and I just returned from a visit to Peru and specifically to the Uros and Taquile islands of Lake Titicaca. Several of the photos included in this "attraction" are of the Uros islands, which are artificial islands constructed with reeds by the people who live there. Taquile island is a natural island. Taquile island is a long 2.5 hour boat ride from Uros. The boat ride can be monotonous at best and we spent much of the time sleeping. Once you get to the island, the main activity is the 30-40 minute hike to and from the town center. The hike offers striking views of lake. The path is essentially paved with... more

We went on a day trip to Los Uros Islands and to Taquile Island. The Uros are a half-hour each-way trip from Puno and well worth the effort. Taquile is much further (two hours) and there isn't much to see when you get there. Just do the Uros trip and save yourself the time. more
