This is about the only ruins near Puno. It is nowhere near as spectacular as the ruins at Machu Picchu and Ollantaytambo, however the tour was only $13 a person and only took 3 or 4 hours so it was worth it. We were in a van with 7 other tourists and it took about 45 minutes or so to... more

I think it depends on how many ruins you have already seen in South Amercia or Peru. I found these to be dull and boring. Really not much to see apart from one half build cylindrical tower and 2 other deteriorating ones. the rest of the site is almost gone. Check out pics on the web before you go. They... more

We had a taxi driver take us to these ruins from puno on the way to airport. We arrived at 6AM and had them completely to ourselves which was magnificent. Was this our last ruin? Is it time to go back to the states? The ruins are a pre Inka burial ground on the shores of Lake Umayo. They are above ground burial chambers in tower like structures called chullpas. We wandered around with our "angel" who gave us a deeper insight into this ruin than on an escorted tour.One... more

There is not a lot to do in Puno (its more of a base to Lake Titicaca). So if you find yourself some free time (as we did) the funery towers are a great option. We went on a organised tour - they gave us a bit of information about the ruins but mostly let us explore ourselves. I'm not... more

It is possible to climb inside some of these funerary ruins and see the inside of these ancient tombs. The view of the lake from the plateau is great and makes for an enjoyable walk. The chullpas are really impressive in size and construction. more
