This was rated very highly in Frommer's, and I only wish that we had had time to see the more modern stuff.

A good collection of paintings. I enjoyed from the Soviet era onwards. The way in which the paintings are arranged gives you a good perspective of the progression of the forms of art. There is an audio guide available (but I didn't get it), there is a little English around (enough to understand the different art forms). I went on... More

Not everyone knows about this appendix to the main facility, but it's worth a trip.

I saw a great exhibition of Avant Gard Russian paintors in Bruxels and have been disappointed by the museography in the Modern Tretyakov. There is really a lot to see, too much. The english audioguide is poor as it describes the paintings in a lot of details but do not provide overall understanding of the key periods. Work on your... More

Really good museum with art from soviet period onwards. Well laid out and info in english. A different permanent collection these days so even if you have been before a few years ago- worth going back as completely revamped! I will return next time i am in moscow to try out the audio guide.. really enjoyable.

History of art in Russia of the previous century. If you are attracted by good paintings go there. You will see the progress of arts in Soviet Union from the beginning.

To be honest, I hate the place itself - ugly building, unwelcoming place, etc. But I should admit that there can be quite interesting exhibitions devoted to the exact artist. As for the permanent exhibition - can be interesting just to understand what was XX century Russian art (talent under strictly defined topics). It is interesting to me - I... More
