This part of Novgorod is littered with churches. It is impossibel to walk more than a few steps before you see another church appear. Bearing in mind the costs associated with the building and maintenance of such buildings, it is a strong indication of the power and wealth that the city of Novgorod obviously had in its heyday. If Yaroslav's Court were the centerpiece of its own town, it would probably be quite a sight to behold. But it doesn't quite compare with the magificent Kremlin just across the river. This is a nice area to walk around if you need something to do, but it photographs just as well from the Kremlin as it does up close.... more
