We only were able to spend two hours in this wonderful place, just to get a glimpse of the treasures. certainly worth a return visit perhaps when it is not so crowded. perhaps in the winter time?

Too much visitors for a one days visit . If you will stay in Petersburg longer than 3-4 days its ok but if you visit the town for 1-2 days and one day in Eremitage its too much to melt, even if you love what you see ?

To sum it all, it will take you 6 years to finish viewing all the collections if you were to spend 3 minutes on each piece. Some of the famous art pieces are from Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vincci, Rembrandt and Raffaello. Avoid weekends. Closed on Mondays. If you are a student take your ID and you can obtain nice discounts to most museums. You might want to invest in a good guide book or get the audio guide available. Many items not translated. It is overwhelmingly beautiful and is a must see!

A truly world class museum in a beautiful setting. The buildings are a work of art in themselves. Not to be missed.

We enjoyed the Hermitage especially the gold room. We only had a short time to visit but luckily the crowds had subsided by late afternoon and we were able to see much of this huge Museum. We liked that much of the artwork is displayed uncovered on the palace walls.
