Depending on the time you have for looking around this is not a place I would go back to but if you do go i would suggest you see if you can get a boat there that way you get a good look at the hermitage from the water.

The church where the more recent Tsars are buried is stunning, too. We were there during a re-gilding inside, which was interesting to watch. One of the highlights of our trip to St. Petersburg.
The final resting place for Peter the Great, other Czars as well as the last Czar of Russia.
walked over the bridge to get several views of the place. saw the fortress and the chapel with the tombs. glad it was just extra time we had and did not miss anything to put this on top of the list. if you are into penny smashing, you can get one here. okay, make that kopec smashing.

us the loo on the hydrofoil. so much to see so little tie take euro coins to use the toilets. beautiful
We visited the Cathedral at Peter and Paul. It was simple but the gate to heaven is under restoration. I wish we had time to visit the artillery museum.
Just amazing - highlight were the burials of the major Tsars and Tsarinas in the Cathedral
We read Robert Massie's biographies of Peter and Catherine to get ready for our trip, so seeing their tombs along with those of others in their lives made their stories more real and compelling. It's a beautiful church, too, and we had a terrific guide.
