It is open at 9am and is free because people actually come here to pray before going to work! Women folk cover their heads, so prepare a scarf. There's nothing much to see here anyway,.. so, just photograph the outside and hop on over to the church of our saviour who spilled blood, which is a museum now

Loved the magnificent and towering exterior. Very different from the catherdrals found in Europe or North America. Still bears testimony of the brutal wounds of WWII on the exteriour. Blasts from mortars, bullets and tankshells but fortunately not worse.

We visited more than once. Lucky enough to be staying nearby, we saw Kazan daily. On our first visit, we saw a mass being held and confession being held. Very different than I've known in the Russian Orthodox Church back home.

This looks like the most European of the churches we saw, but upon entering it was the only church we visited that seemed alive and full of spirit. LOVED it! Babushkas kissing icons and lighting candles, people lined up in a long line at one particular icon, thick clouds of incense.......free to enter but consider making a donation and lighting... More

This is a active church so they don't charge you to get in, that said the place needs a clean and a renovation. There are long queues to offer devotion at the famous icon so it's hard to get a look at this but it is the overall place is worth seeing.

Having seen the other reviews perhaps we had over-raised our expectations about this Cathedral. Also having already visited the St Nicholas, St Isaacs and Peter & Paul Fortress Cathedrals we were rather disappointed with The Cathedral of our Lady of Kazan. The outside architecture is odd with huge 'wings leading to the entrance seemingly without any purpose. Inside the Church... More

This impressive Russian orthodox cathedral, named after the "miraculous" icon of Our Lady of Kazan, is located at: 2, Nevsky Prospekt, Kazanskaya Square. It's interior boasts impressive columns, sculptures and icons by a variety of famous russian artists.
