Just up the road (400m) from the China (Marriott) hotel , and opposite Yuexiu park, I'd describe the area more as a botanical garden than just an Orchid garden. Entrance is 8CNY and I spent a pleasant hour strolling the paths past all manner of flora, teahouses, ponds and greenhouses with orchids. April didn't seem to be the optimum time...
