More detailed display according to dynasty. Three display halls displaying Xia, Shang, Zhou period, Han period, and Tang period. There are documentary video to introduce audience to different aspect of history pertaining to the dynasties, e.g.: one on ZhangQian the Han adventurer, etc. Very helpful for children. Went their in February 09. One of the best laid out museums I've been too. I loved visiting the Warriors but this place was an unheralded gem. Artifacts were displayed to great effect and with great lighting. We had a local guide and her english was great and she made sure we didn't miss a thing. Keep plenty of time... more
We heard this place was amazing, but unfortunately its closed on Mondays! We were definitely disappointed, but spent the day at the Pagoda and then caught a museum in Shanghai to make up for it. more
Shaanxi History Museum is actually much larger than I expected it to be, and there are literally thousands of exhibits on display. We did not know what to expect at this museum, so were absolutely delighted by the splendours within -- everything from the pre-historical period to the Tang dynasty. There are amazing items in the collection. We were there on a Tuesday afternoon and it was free. Not sure if that's the case all the time or just Tuesdays. It's closed... more
This is a museum which is currently undergoing an internal re-construction. Guidebooks I've seen say that there is some English: we had a guide who was desperate to show us her local knowledge but I found her English was a little too limited to match my knowledge of the Tang Dynasty.
