I had an opportunity to visit this mountain during the 'Tomb Sweeping Holiday', for that specific purpose; Sweep the last of my wifes' relatives tombs, which are located within the forest park itself. The walk up the mountain is just like the forest walks I have done in New Zealand and with the weather being on our side during our... More

We enjoyed visiting the temples on the hill. We got the chairlift to the top. If you are in Kunming then it's worth a visit however don't make a special trip to Kunming for this as there are temples everywhere in China anyway.

We visited this mountain with our two children. It is very much on the local tourist bus tour, but still well worth the visit. It was nice to see the city and lake from the top, and the grottos are impressive. It's not life changing by any means, but was the highlight of our time in Kunming.

and you haven't been to Xi Shan if you haven't been to Long Men (Dragon's Gate). A friend and I ventured out to XiShan to do some hiking. The guide book suggested taking bus 5 to the terminus and then transferring to line 6. Well, we never found the bus 6, but there were people yelling out "Xi Shan" across... More

Due to our schedule, my husband and I had to go to Western Hill on a Sunday before a holiday. We took the cable car, then the chair lift up the Hill. The scenery was gorgeous. It seemed tranquil but as soon as we started to hike the ridge to the very summit, our anticipation for a quiet afternoon vanished.... More

Our visit to the West Hills was the best day we had in Kunming. We took two local buses (1RMB each per person) from near Cloudland YH to the base of the hills and we then hired a minibus (30RMB for 7 people) from the bus stop to get us to the ropeway station. We then took the ropeway to... More

This was the best part about my visit to Kunming. I recommend taking the cable car up from the Dragon Gate area. It is a long, leisurely ride up the side of the hills and gives a breathtaking view of the city and the lake. Once at the top, you can walk down the hills and visit various little temples,... More

Looking at Xi Shan from the city. The mountains form a shape of a sleeping beauty. This is a top attraction among locals, go there if you like outdoors. It's located close to the Yunnan Nationalities Village is a must see.
