Worth seeing while staying in Kunming. Very impressive formations. Most tour groups (and there are bus loads of them) appear to be led through the main paths but I strongly suggest to take the opportunity to wander a little off the beaten paths, you will then get away from the crowds and experience the full glory of this place. Its... More

Busloads of tourists flock to this which likely does not enhance the experience. Geologically it is very interesting but I am not sure I would make a trip to Kunming just to do this. I think if you could be either first in the gate (early morning) or last out (towards sunset) you would derive more pleasure from the surreal... More

You need lots of time here just wandering aroung the track looking at the wonderful rock formations that are every where. The rock formation is limestone and was an ancient sea bed at one stage. By the time the review has been done you will be able to stay at a hotel at the location.

amazing huge forest of beautiful rocks of various shapes, sizes and forms. Let your imagination run wild as you see and decipher what the stones / rocks look like. You'll be surprised, one of the stones may just resemble an object that you have in mind.

The stone forest was an incredible place to visit. Only 83km (~50 miles) outside of kunming, the bus ride from the eastern bus station takes only 1.5-2 hrs depending on traffic. This is an all day excursion - also, be sure to leave early enough so you can catch the last bus returning to kunming at 6pm. The worst part... More

Our guide took us to this wonderful forest. He took us for a visit for 2 hours up and down step stairs to see this wonder. The great rocks, tunnels which most of the tourists did not see what we saw.

If you are a golfer you can get the best of both worlds by playing golf at the Stone Forest International Country Club and seeing the rock formations at the same time. There are 3 outstanding golf courses in immaculate condition and the views of the rock formations are breathtaking. Take your camera as well as your clubs.
