Our second disappointment - finding a closed site. This sounds like a fabulous museum. Sorry we didn't get to experience it. The building and grounds alone make it seem intriguing.

Very dark museum for some reason, and absolutely stuffed full of school kids with sheets of workpaper. Nonetheless, pretty interesting artifacts and displays of the history of Kyoto before, during and after its inception as capital of Japan. Most of the displays had brief English descriptions beside them but it was all pretty self-explanatory.
