If your in the vicinity, the view from the top of Kyoto Tower is worth seeing.
Very strange. The building is very old, and austere. Staff members and guides are everywhere, (its a little bombarding). After going up the tower through various shonky elevators, we arrived at the top. The binoculars are free. NOTE: Not only can you see the amazing sprawling city of Kyoto you can look DIRECTLY into the hotel rooms of the guests...

it costs money to go up there but the viewing binoculars up there are free... i don't think it's a must-see or anything, but you do get a decent view of kyoto's surrounding temples, etc. i went at night and it's quite pretty with all the lights.... even got a view of kiyomizu-dera (清水寺) which is kind of cool, since...
