I take most of my foreign visitors to visit Rumah Penghulu. It is an amazing piece of village in the city; an antique surrounded by modern new skyscrapers. Thank you to Badan Warisan for preserving this cultural relic.

Gives you a snapshot of the local culture and what village life was like. I also liked looking at the architecture, not only of the village house but the colonial house where the office is located. In the heart of the city, it's very easy to get to. They also have car parking on site. Call ahead and book a...

I visited Rumah Penghulu while passing away a day in KL on my own. It was easy to find using Lonely Planet - I walked there from our hotel near Bukit Bintang. The place is very relaxed, very beautiful, and the staff are calm, friendly and helpful. I got a guided tour on my own at I think 2pm. The...

With very liitle of "historic" KL left in the city centre, this preserved village headsman house is a great find. Only about a 10 minute walk from the KLCC park, (near the Traders hotel) makes this site readily accesible. As well as the preserved house, there is also a ex-British colonial house which has some interesting displays inside. The best...

I recommend everybody interested in Malesian culture to visit this place. Arcitecture is not all they talk about, you get a beautiful introduction to Malesian way of life a little way back in time. Do take something to drink with you, altough they kindly offer you some water. It can get quite hot, not air-conditioning in this place! Luckily. I...

We arrived just before the 11 am tour and ended up having a private tour as no one else turned up. The stilt house was really interesting and our guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable. No entrance fee just a donation.
We arrived too late for the 11am tour, however the lovely Intan offered to show us round anyway on a personal guided tour.
The old (1916) Malay kampung house is exquisite and the tour was very interesting. Although we have lived in Malaysia for 3 years we learnt so much.
We would recommend this to anyone visiting KL, especially in...

Be sure to make a visit to Rumah Penghulu during your time in Kuala Lumpur. It gets you away from the hustle and bustle of the busy capital and provides a glimpse into life as it used to be in rural Malaysia.
The tour guides are very friendly and knowledgable. There is an informative video before the tour and they...
