This place used to be a wet market filled with fresh and dried fish and other goods, many many years ago. Now it is mainly catered for the tourists. If you are seeking batik and other local products (e.g. wooden crafts and artifacts) then you could buy them easily here, however becareful with the displayed price (too expensive). Try to... more

The Central Market is a good place for souvenir shopping, with comparable quality and prices. We bought cloth bags (for RM28 each) which proved to be quite a hit with our friends when we got home (wish we’d bought a few more). If you are shopping for a bargain this market is superb. Go at night, not in the day, and you will find sellers are very competitive and expect to pay 70% or less than the original price. Good bargaining can result in a final price half of the asking price. Have fun bargaining - the sellers do! Watch how exprienced... more
