We had no idea that the museum was under construction when we went there. Many of the exhibits were moved into the covered courtyard area, but certainly not all of them. While there is plenty to see now, we are going to have to return once their renovation is complete.

we have visited many museums and it was so refreshing to see some really unusual exhibits, displayed very well, with very good enghlish written information. The museum is not big so you are interested all the way round. We would definately go back if we were in Ankara again.

I just can't give it only 3 stars, because it really deserves a 5-star, if it weren't under restoration. I am an ancient history fanatic, especially on Egyptology and Hittitology. I've been dying to see the ruins of the ancient Hittite kingdom out in Bogazkoy/Hattusas and Amasya. As you can imagine, Anatolian Civilizations Museum is on the top of my... More

If you have any interest in Hittite culture you will want to stop at this gem in Ankara. The pieces are each amazing in detail and in scope.

It is one of the best main attractions in Ankara. Not to be missed. If you are really interested in history and ancient civilizations of Anatolia ( Hittites, Akkadians, Sumerians ) this museum is highly recommended. The museum takes you back to history. Never skip.

Some of the rooms and basement were closed off for renovation but what was available from Paleolithic times to Hittite times was well laid out and interesting. Nice museum but could have been better if more was open based on the little we saw.

You will learn a lot on the Hittite civilization as well as the Sumerians, Akkadians and so many other civilizations that were born in Turkey. There is a lot to be seen in a park at the foot of the citadel of Kale.
