This is "the" sacred place for Turks as there lies the founder of Modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, to whom we owe our freedom and our secular way of life. I visited Anitkabir on the 2001 anniversary of Ataturk's death (Nov 10). If you want to visit the site, going on that day will be especially interesting. While the mood was somber, it was moving to see such a large turnout. I would recommend doing some research on Ataturk and the history of the site before going. While there give... more
