We birded our first day at Santa Ana, and saw at least 20 life birds betweent dawn and 9 a.m.

This refuge has an excellent trail system that is best avoided when wet.

Great guided walk. Friendly people. Easy trails. Lots of birds.

Beautiful reserve, well laid out, nothing wrong with it, really nice staff and volunteers. Unfortunately, migration had been a little late this year, so we did not fulfil our purpose. That's just luck really.

This is a well known birdwatching refuge. Unfortunately we were about a week early for most migrant birds this year but still had a good time and saw quite a few species.

We visited early in the afternoon in February so the weather was mild and perfect for hiking. Many of the trails are wooded and but many are out in the open and would be challenging on a hot Texas summer day. We took the tram ride. The lecture was interesting - I learned many things about the valley that I did not know.

The guides for the bird walk and the tram ride were very knowledgeable and helpful. On the negative side, the sign posting for the hiking trails left something to be desired.

We had a married couple provide us with a tram ride (he driving and she narrating) for a nominal charge. Afterward we walked a two mile trail, having had an orientation that greatly enhanced our hike.
