After having visited Kamakura we walked to see the Great Buddha of Kamakura, 2nd largest statue of Buddha of Japan. You pass the entrance gate, walk a few seconds and then you see the 13-meter statue. Only one word comes to you "wow". The statue was casted more than 800 years ago. We visited this large Buddha on a day and a half visit to Kamakura. Personally I am not very knowledgeable of Buddhist religion, but it was still pretty incredible to see and a great photo opportunity. A day in Kamakura is the perfect day trip from Tokyo. Of course, no trip to Kamakura would be complete without a visit to The Giant Buddha. We visited on a weekday in July and there were many people there visiting, but it wasn't crowded. The Buddha is worth seeing for it's sheer size alone. It was an awesome sight... more

The most famous landmark in Kamakura is the Great Buddha (daibutsu). Located in Hase, it is accesible by the Enoden Railway from Kamakura Station.
