Visited Mamiraua when it just started (1998) and when it was getting well known (2002). Visited in October 2007 and am convinced this is one of the best places to go for wildlife, learning about conservation and community participation. During our roundtheworld trip we stayed at the Mamiraua Resort and it was just fantastic and overwhelming. The wooden huts were quite luxurious for a resort in the middle of nothing! The guides are all local people from tribes who are participating in the project and of course the revenues. That means they were all very familiar with the flora... more

Loved it! Stayed in June 2004. One week, loved the place. It is worth the price to go just for the meals. I cannot say anything was wrong with the place either. Caution if you swim I was chased by a large caimen but made it out safely. more
