Get out of the clichés and discover the countryside! The Pantanal is still one of the few areas in Brazil where nature is (pretty much) left in peace. The touristic infrastructure is very good though (even if a bit expensive) and should certainly please all tastes. it is a good opportunity to get out of the Amazon, beach, samba, carnival... more

The initial process of orchestrating the visit to the Pantanal was a little overwhelming, in that there are so many options. I took my two children aged 14 and 12 to Brazil for a three week tour in July and August this year. The highlight of our trip was most defintely the Pantanal. It is a vast area teeming with wildlife. My kids and I just returned from a wonderful 5 -day trip to the Pantanal. We saw almost all the animals we'd wanted to see-- teriffic luck! Alligators, roseate spoonbills, anteaters, a jaguar, a puma, tapirs, cabivaras, giant river otters, hyacinth macaws, coatis, aracaris, caracaras, parrots, rheas, jabirus, a king vulture, capped herons, white-tufted marmocets, howler monkeys, piranhas, and tons... more
