I returned twice on this recent trip to Praca da Liberdade since every Sunday morning from 0900-1200 there are free tours(in Portuguese only) of the Palacio.Worth the return to see this gem! And the Praca itself has much to offer:the Niemeyer building, museums and beautiful buildings and a nice park with great trees! Enjoy

The square is surrounded by a large number of museums and host a variety of music venues.

An amazing place to hang out with family and friends, or even take a walk. On weekends the night program is an added attraction.

This square can be called the heart of Belo Horizonte. Gardens, lots of people, children and an occasinal music concert at weekends!

The crossing of Afonso Pena Avenue and Amazonas Avenue is usually a crowded place during the week. An obelisk marks the city's downtown "center" point.

Nice kept park with water fountains, palm trees and plenty places to sit. Not that large but gets very busy with people walking/jogging/running. Always nice to people watch. Nice views of some of the colonial buildings which have been restored nicely. Often the park hosts events such a jazz festival and other music.

Nice place for a stroll and to enjoy the different museums around the square - facades and contents as well.

As I was there for Christmas (and still is actually) I had enough luck to see some event organised either by the city or the area.
