For me, this place is like an emblem of the carioca culture: democratic, colourful, diverse. The Feira de São Cristóvão used to take place every weekend, on the streets, just beside the monument where it happens now, a park built a few years ago. The party became famous, and too big, so the city decided to build the "Centro de... More

The official name is: Center of Northeastern Traditions and should be a place where we would have the unique culture of the northeast, but what we see? People who mix the northeast habits to the habits of the Carioca ( (who was born in Rio). The result is a mess, no identity and very poor.

Nicknamed the Feira dos Paraíbas, this is the place where northeasterners come to hear their music, eat their food. Not a pretty place, the Pavilhão de São Cristóvao hasn't had its roof in over 20 years, but it is an interesting experience though. Not for the design hotel people though.

We love visiting market places in different countries to buy locally made products. This is not the place to go for that-- go to the Hippie Fair in Ipanema on Sundays instead. This IS the place for locally made food items, Northeastern cuisine and churrasco/rodizio and several stages with live music, dancing, ,and singing. If you must shop there, you... More

This huge market is a very popular attraction for the locals in Rio de Janeiro. I never go to Rio de Janeiro without enjoying an evening there. The place is a former football station which now houses hundreds of small stalls selling everything from handicrafts to exciting local dishes from the northern Brazil The place is especially well known for... Feira de São Crsitóvão, or Feira dos Nordestinos is that kind of attraction that every Rio visitor must visit ! The São Cristóvão Fair has lots of original folklore stuff, music, food and locals, most of them with any kind of northeast origin. It´s the best location to buy northest souvenirs, times cheaper than Copacabana or Ipanema. There is a... More

This is an interesting fair, lively and informal without luxury or refinement, whose theme is the culture, folklore and customs of the northeast region of Brazil. Founded by immigrants from this region (one of the poorest in the country), moving to Rio in search of better opportunities, the location is great for fun with typical dances and to learn more... This “fair” was suppose to be the place where immigrants from the north and northeast of Brazil, living in Rio and homesick get together on the weekends; enjoying the culture from their original state. The “event” used to take place on the outsides of the area where it is located today. The current location was build as a pavilion for... More
