I am not a "Plant guy" but our tour took us to both the Botanical Garden and this site. I preferred Burle Marx over the Botanical Garden and would encourage people with the time to do so to visit. Its a pretty long drive but amazingly unique.

Where to begin? Burle Marx, considered one of the greatest of modern landscape architects, created a masterpiece in this, his own living area on the grounds of an ancient (for Rio)17th century church whose building is maintained for weddings and other special occasions. Marx's home and studio, now housing his eclectic collection of Brazilian and European curios and art work,... More

Burle Marx was a great landscape designer and the sitio gives you a real insight into his work. Tours are in Portugese. The sitio is some distance from main parts of Rio. This is an esoteric taste but highly recommended if your interests run in this direction.

Interesting for architects but not only. Nature lovers and people who like plants flowers and etc... will like it . Suggest to book and confirm in advance. take repellent . Combine the visit with other options like going to guaratiba beach and on the way back to RIO coming back via GRumari and other beaches until Barra Da tijuca.

This site is a must see for landscape professionals as well as avid gardeners. The tour is mandatory - do call ahead so that you can be accomodated. Strolling through Burle Marx's gardens, shade houses, and his residence is an inspiration. Be aware that it can be hot and humid and there are mosquitos. The site is on the hillside,... More

This really is a little heaven on earth. It's the home of Rio's prominent artist and landscape designer, planted out over 18 hecters. There are several buildings including his actual home, amazing art pieces and collections of handicrafts, as well as a rich collection of plants. Important, you must book in advance, do this by calling. No call, no admission.... More

The location is away (there is about 1 hour from Ipanema), but the distance is compensated by the beauty of this place, the former residence of the famous landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx. A shed of Modern Arts, a historic chapel and hundreds of exotic plant species are in harmony on this property of singular beauty. A terrific guide tour... More
