Beautiful but too dirty. The beach is in the feet of Rocinha, one of the biggest "favelas" of Rio, which sewage makes its way into the wonderful blue waters. Regretful but true...

It´s a beautiful beach, but a very polluted beach. Just drive 5 more minutes and go to Barra da Tijuca!

It is beautiful, in fact. But the sewage which is deposited directly onto the beach makes it impossible to come close. It was the place to be in the 1980's, though. One can only wonder why we Brazilians ---- up beautiful places like this.

Sao Conrado beach is simply stunning, the mountain backdrop is incredible. As a surfer I loved the waves there, they are powerful and have great shape. The only thing I will say is not to go in the ocean after it has been raining as it gets polluted then due to sewage run off from Rocinha, the nearby favela. But...

Hang-gliding is a big deal in Rio...I did it, but we will discuss that later...The people who hang-glide all land on Sao Conrado beach. It's fun just to watch them...But, it's more fun to be the one hang-gliding. It's the most unique experience I've ever had.
