Lush tropical and temperate fruits from every season, choice cuts of meats and fish, and hearty prepared foods, such as the renowned and enormous mortadella (bologna) sandwich, complete the market's catalog of wares, all for sale in a boisterous, welcoming atmosphere. The surrounding area can be a bit sketchy, but the sights and flavors more than make up for the journey downtown. « less

DO - Eat the Mortadela Sandwich or the Codfish fried pie. They are world renowed - Contemplate the nice architeture - See the stained glass - See the fruit stands - but just see. Buying in a supermarket is cheaper DO NOT - Be aware of the fruit sellers. They are masters to lure tourists into buying expensive fruits. It... More

This is a market, of course, but full of exotic fruits, exotic merchandise. The place is in a very beautiful building, a sightseeing in itself. There you get a lot of good restaurants where you can taste the mortadella and cheese sandwich. A delicious and very special snack. You can try the "pastel de bacalhau", a wonderful pastry made with... More

Please check this out. Abundance of exotic fruits. Huge bustling farmers market, food stalls in an older building. We bought only the amazonian fruits to try something unique and took them home for dinner. We also had a Chopp and split a Mortadella and cheese (hot) sandwich & the Pastel de Bachalau at an Italian eatery by the stairs. Inexpensive... More

Was really a highlight of the Sao Paulo trip. Just wandering around all the different food stands the colors and ambiance were excellent. Try as much food as you can form the stalls we ate at a stand up oyster and beer bar by the side exit the ceviche was amazing and the beers cold. Great experience

We ate at the downstairs Hocca bar... the Prawn Pastel for local Brazilian flavour... it really was excellent... while the pastel is a pastry.. it was not greasy at all and with the hot sauce... really tasty. There is a jewelry store there too that sells very cool stuff made from a brazilian grass... yet it looks like its made... More

Here you can find fresh (and delicious) fruits from all over the world. But the prices are for tourists, be aware. If you are interested in plain brazilian fruits you can buy them for much less elsewhere. But they allow you to taste some bits, and I really recommend that you do that.

It was hot and crowded but so worth the visit. The market is full of fresh fruit, fresh meats, veggies and fish as well as salt cured items. Cheese, drinks, condiments, olives, nuts.....so many items I can't remember them all. Very authentic and great fun. If it's your first time in Brazil don't be intimidated by all of the people around.... More

This was my favorite place to visit in Sao Paulo, simply because it was the most authentic. I am Latin American, and it was amazing to see how many fruits Brazil has that I had never heard before. Most are only grown in Amazon areas. If you tell the owner of the stall that you want to try a slice... More

This place is amazing if you are interested in food, they have an amazing amount of fruit, meats, fish, nuts, alcohol as well as places to eat. If you like mortadella the restaurants make a mortadella sandwich about 2inches thick! I couldn't finish half. It tastes great to start and then it starts to get cold and it isnt that... More
