The Tsaravets Fortress is a magnificent place for a stroll in the Bulgarian sunshine. There is a nominal entrance fee and you are then allowed to wander around at will. To reach the tallest view point for a further 2 lev you can take an elevator which seems rather odd in a medeval tower. Much of the Tsaravets is a ruin... More

Breathtaking view over surroundings. The church is painted in modern art style, definitely unusual.

Sound and light show is a highlight of any trip to Veliko Tarnovo. It can be difficult to predict when it will happen, but persevere, and ask your hotel to check if it will be on that evening.

Enjoyed this very much, nice view over the valley. Need your walking shoes. Bigger than it looks from the entrance. Need cash. We went in the summer as well, there were a lot more tourists and it was hot in the sun. The fall was much more enjoyable, peaceful, less people. NOT a place to take a stroller or wheelchair.... Compared to what I was expecting it was very large. There must have been a big court there. The location is very strategical chosen, very easy to defend. Try and go in the morning or late afternoon, otherwise the sun will get you.

Arrived at the socialist bus station, which does not say anything about the beauties waiting for me. The city is built on the hills which are in the curves of the Yantra river. It is absolutely wonderful. Strolling on the streets with old houses and seeing how old crafts are practiced can get you closer to the people (of course... More

Been on a cruise of Danube and on an somehow purchased a tour to Veliko Tarnovo. Did not expect anything shocking and outstanding here, but when the night was on - this amazing Light show has knocked my mind of. The whole Fortress is on fire! Have never seen anything like this in other countries. It reminds the singing fountains... More
