We visited the Inn Thein Pagoda complex during the Water Festival leading up to Myanmar New Year, the boat journey up the waterway from Inle Lake was absolutely beautiful, but we arrived at the village totally soaked thanks to the children who hid behind the bamboo weirs and threw buckets of water over us! The waterway is fascinating and gives... More

The boat trip to the area was in itself amazing and so interesting, as you left the lake area and travelled upland, through the agricultural area to the bamboo forests. Then wondering these ancient temples with vines and trees going through and over them, was a thing of beauty. Seeing more at the summit, the new, the old, the white,... More

The trip to the village up the canal made us feel like explorers as there was so little evidence of western influence. When we got there, we wandered through the village which is exactly as it was thirty years ago. The pagoda is beautiful and the ancient stupas are great to explore and take more photos. However, be warned that... More

Take a wonderful boat ride 'upstream' over small waterfalls (just inches tall), passing villages and villagers, water buffalo, etc., to arrive. Then walk up a long covered gallery lined with stalls to the top of a hill covered with temples in varying states of repair - a photographer's delight. The village is trying to restore the temples before they collapse,... More

We went on a quiet day (not market day) so saw village life. The trip there on the boat was fabulous!

A long walk up from the village along a covered walkway lined with souvenir stalls. Then you find hundreds of old crumbling pagodas fortunately left largely unrestored. That's the attraction, it's a photographer's paradise. On the way back to the jetty refresh yourself with green coconut water. Pick your nut and they'll slice the top off for you.

An extra 3,000kyats, but the journey here in itself is worth it. Along the way you travel upstream (with mini waterfalls from bamboo dams), along a beautiful winding canal, passing by children playing in the water, people washing buffaloes, women washing and bathing, and monks wandering on the banks.

Indein village is an extremely dense area of pagodas.1200 or more pagodas ranging from the 7th century to the present. The village requires a$1 camera fee, many souvenier stands at the entrance area. The overall feel of the village is like being in an archeological area. Some pagodas are old and crumbling, some are reconstructed, some are newly donated. Many of the OLDER PAGODAS have intricate carvings... It is an extra 3000 kyat to go up the canal to Indein, but worth the money and 40 minute walk once you arrive. Great photo op here. Don't miss out!
