They are the same (or maybe slightly less) appealing that any other high plateau lagoons. Problem is that they ask for $ to look at them and you cannot move closer than 50m because some rare birds are there.
For me, the most impressive tour of all was Tara! Do not leave San Pedro without going there.
In fact my curiosity was more to know how I would be at 4200m because I had problems at Tibet some years ago. The lagoons are nothing very spectacular.
While interesting, the flamingos were so far away that they were difficult to see. In comparison to other parts of Atacama, this was disappointing.
The lagoons are worthy of a few good "oohs" and "aahs" but then it's back on the bus to the next stop. The drives to and from them were beautiful and it's a nice daytrip, but there wasn't much to them other than their beauty,
Nice landscapes. Have into account that some of the lagoons are at 4200 meters above sea level. Drink plenty a liquids before the trip. I didn't have any issue with the "mal de alturas"
The lagoons are incredible. Lot of nature, birds. The place is unique. Don't forget the sun block.
The lagoons at sunrise are amazing and I would not have missed them for anything. Be aware that at a little over 14,000 feet above sea level, it is physically taxing
The lakes are beautiful. Even more ineresting the countryside on the way, and the wildlife: flamingoes, coots, wild vicuna, llamas...
